Weaving Technology into the Fabric of the Classroom.

At a Weaving Tech workshop session, which usually runs for one school day, experts deliver keynote presentations about teaching and technology. Examples of previous presenters include professors from universities across Australia, industry experts from VR and robotics companies, as well as teachers that have used technology in their classroom. A key component of these talks is Professor Tech talking about the “pedagogy before technology” model and how this can be used to integrate technology into the classroom, as well as case studies of technology use.

Weaving Technology into the Fabric of the Classroom (Weaving Tech for short) is an award-winning workshop program for K - 12 teachers to understand how technology is changing our teaching practice. Originally funded by Google in 2017, Weaving Tech has since run nine times across Queensland, including at universities and primary/secondary schools, from Mackay to the Gold Coast. It has been attended by over 300 teachers learning directly about technology in the classroom.

In addition to speeches, the Weaving Tech session also include a hands-on component for participants where they get to experience new technology. Extended Reality is often a component of these sessions (Virtual, Mixed, Augmented Reality), but they also often involve robotics, drones, wearable tech and other new technologies. Often, local presenters will be involved in these sessions, giving teachers a connection back into their community that can be further developed.

Feedback for the Weaving Tech sessions has been universally positive, and teachers love the opportunity for professional development on new technology. Weaving Tech can be run for a single school, or for a region in a central location. Touch base with us to see how a Weaving Tech might work for you.
