Professor Tech’s Intro to Awesome.

Professor Tech’s Intro to Awesome is a way for school students and the general public to understand how technology is an essential part of our everyday lives. Through hands-on sessions, Professor Tech provides an insight into new innovations in Mixed Reality, Robotics, Drones and other areas, and helps students to see how they can be balanced digital citizens, empowered to make the most of the technology that they will encounter in their everyday lives.

The Intro to Awesome program can be customised for many types of different technology, but the most popular offering is Intro to Awesome (Extended Reality), which has been run across Queensland over the last four years, including at regional libraries, educational institutions, and as part of the Queensland Museum Networks World Science Festival. In the Extended Reality experience, students are given the option to walk with dinosaurs in the Jurassic Park Apatosaurus experience, as well as walk the plank in Richie’s Plank Experience (developed by local Queensland developer Toast VR).

Each program is designed to be delivered across a day, and can be tailored to cater for a specific cohort of students, or an entire year level. Students will be given an introduction to the area, allowed to experience the Extended Reality experiences, and then debriefed on what they learnt about the technology. Professor Tech delivers all these components in his signature, award-winning teaching style, with interaction with students a key part of the experience.

Whilst these experiences are intended as discovery experiences for students, they can optionally be aligned with the ACARA curriculum, such as for example in providing a space experience for students using the Mission: ISS and other space apps. Apart from the Extended Reality experience, Professor Tech has also offered robotics and drone experiences for students, and can work with other technologies as well.
